I always looked upon the acts of racist exclusion, or insult, as pitiable, for the other person. I never absorbed that. I always thought that there was something deficient about such people.

About This Quote

As I read this quote, I feel like I am reading about myself. Quickly, I think of the people who have treated me unfairly over the years. I think about all of the times that someone has done something to me that was not nice. And then, being a good person, I tried to see the other person’s side.

Because people have done me wrong, I have been quick to judge them. In my mind, their actions showed a lack of compassion for people who are different from them. That is how I have come to look at these people.

And being a good person, I want to help them, guide them and show them how to be a better person. But it is not that simple! These people need more than a little guidance and a few pointers. If only they could realize what it means to be human and realize that everyone has value and that they should treat others with respect and kindness! This quote says that we should not judge someone because of their race or what they look like or because of what they do for a living.
